The device has a set of rocker arms (10, 11) rotatably supported on a bearing axle (12) to operate a valve e.g. inlet and exhaust valves, of a motor car combustion engine. A fixing device (13) limits one of the rocker arms in a rotating movement to a maximum pivoting angle, and fixes the corresponding rocker arm in an axial direction. The fixing device directly couples the rocker arms with the bearing axle, and comprises a prolonged groove running in a circumferential direction. The fixing device is provided with a guide pin (15) that engages with the prolonged groove.
