The Optoelectronic detection mechanism has two optical detectors (1,2) spaced apart and pointing towards the road lane, and receiving reflected light. The luminous intensity of the reflected light is measured. The light varies as a car crosses the light trajectory path. The electronic outputs of each optical receiver are processed to produce a differential electronic signal.
