The method (1) involves generating energy (2) by driving an electric machine of an operating device of a vehicle as a generator device by operating an onboard network control element i.e. steering wheel, of the operating device. The amount of energy to be generated is estimated (3) by using motor layer sensors of the operating device. The amount of estimated energy is fed (4) in an electrical system of the vehicle by using a feed arrangement, where the operating device comprises an electromechanical steering or a brake device with electrical brake boosters.
