PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet field system synchronous machine at low cost which delivers high peak thrust and achieves a fine pitch of movement. SOLUTION: In the plurality of the teeth trains 11, 12 of a stator 1, the teeth 11a, 12a are formed with an equal pitch P with grooves 12b in-between. The plurality of the teeth trains 11, 12 are shifted from their adjacent teeth trains by 0.5P in the direction of movement. A mover 2 comprises m pieces of electromagnets of the same structure the centers of which are apart from one another by a phase difference of⊕180/m deg. in electrical angle in the direction of movement. Each of the electromagnets consists of a plurality of C-shaped cores in the same shape, permanent magnets 61-64 and a non-magnetic intermediate material 13 inserted into between the plurality of the C-shaped cores, and a coil 41. Teeth are formed on the magnetic poles of the plurality of the C-shaped cores with a pitch of 0.5P in the direction of movement with grooves in-between. The permanent magnets 61-64 are magnetized in the lateral direction with a pitch of 0.5P so that their orientation will be alternated in the direction of movement. The permanent magnets 61-64 are arranged, so that the polarity occurring on the teeth of the magnetic poles of the C-shaped cores will be opposite to the polarity occurring on the teeth of the magnetic poles of the adjacent cores.
