This metal complex comprises: a polyvalent carboxylic acid compound; at least one type of metal ion selected from ions of metals belonging to group 2 to 13 of the periodic table; an organic ligand that is capable of multidentate coordination to the metal ions; and a monocarboxylic acid compound having 1 or 2 carbon atoms. The metal complex has excellent adsorption, occlusion and separation abilities of gas, has excellent durability, and is capable of being stably present and retaining a high adsorption ability under high temperatures and humidity.
