Provided is an element for a metallic belt for a continuously variable transmission, the element satisfactorily providing frictional force in a small-diameter state and reducing misalignment. An element (40) for a metallic belt for a belt-type continuously variable transmission is configured in such a manner that each of the side edges of the element (40) for the metallic belt (7), the side edges being in contact with both a drive pulley (5) and a driven pulley (8), comprises: a rectilinear outer portion (46b) in the radial direction of the belt, the outer portion (46b) being located on the outer side of the metallic belt (7) in the radial direction thereof and following an radially inner portion (11a) which is a tilted generating line portion tilted at a certain angle; and a curved inner portion (46a) in the radial direction of the belt, the inner portion (46a) being located on the inner side of the metallic belt (7) in the radial direction thereof and being curved in such a manner that the inner portion (46a) is tapered inward in the radial direction of the belt and in such a manner that the tilt angle of the inner portion (46a) gradually increases.
