SURGICAL STAPLING APPARATUS Abstract A method of articulating the tool assembly of a surgical instrument (10), comprising manipulating an articulation lever (30); rotating an upper clutch (428) with respect to a lower clutch (430); and resiliently engaging a plurality of protrusions (470) of the upper clutch with recesses of the lower clutch, the protrusions and recesses tending to retain the tool assembly in one of a plurality of articulated positions.
