An auto-destruct, pre-loaded syringe has a cylindrical body 10 creating a cavity 11 around a lumen closure 7 in the form of a glass bar 8 with a magnet bar 9 on one side, for breakage at a weak point or notch 14 by a magnetic force to release a pre-loaded drug. To avoid broken glass particles getting into the drug, a styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) coating is applied to the outer surfaces of the notch and an SMA powder compact is provided within the lumen walls of the notch - converting to gel upon contact with the drug and trapping glass particles. A fluid pressure piston drive mechanism (figure 3), which may have a foot operated drive piston (31), drives a piston 29 in an actuator (27) with a thrust surface (30) which abuts a syringe plunger thumb rest (26) to expel the drug. |
