<p>A method of producing a product having a predetermined porosity, the method comprising the steps of conducting a porosity test upon a test sample, producing a 3-dimensional model 10 of voids 12 interconnected by throats 14, and deriving an intrusion curve for the model. The derived intrusion curve for the model is compared with an intrusion curve showing the output of the porosity test and the model is iteratively modified until the derived intrusion curve for the model matches that for the output of the porosity test. Adjustments are made to at least one parameter of the model to adjust the porosity characteristics of the model to the predetermined porosity characteristics, and the test sample is modified in accordance with the adjustments. A further aspect of the invention relates to modelling the presence of ink bottle pores in a test sample and outputting information regarding the number, location and/or concentration of voids in a test sample having a number of connected throats lower than a predetermined number. Another aspect relates to outputting information regarding the impact of the presence or absence of wetting fluid within the voids and/or throats on the thermal conductivity of the sample.</p> |
