The system (100) includes a library of first variable types, each generating numerical results. These are equal numerical results, produced from the circuit carrying out fixed point arithmetic. The library includes further, second variable types. These correspond to specific variables of the first type. The second variable type produce required numerical results. A compiler responds to functions specifying the first type of variable, to produce an object code. This comprises functions corresponding to the first and second variable types. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding method of code development.
