PURPOSE: An automatic transmission system for a shift-by wire and a control method therefor are provided to improve usage convenience as emergency drive is possible for maintenance. CONSTITUTION: A gearbox(10) controls the shift gear of a vehicle. A user input unit(20) generates stop release signals for emergency drive. A control unit(30) comprises a fail-safety control module(32) and an emergency drive control module(34). The fail-safety control module controls the gearbox, and shifts to park. The emergency drive control module releases a parking state by controlling the gearbox.
