The X-ray tube (1) has an anode (4) and a thermic cathode (3), which are electrically connected in series. The cathode is provided with a heating current during the operation of the X-ray tube. The anode and the cathode are contained in a vacuum casing made of an electrically conductive material, which is used to connect the anode and cathode in series. The cathode may have a heating element receiving the heating current and an emission element, which is heated to the emission temperature by the heating element.
