A filter for a smoking article 1 comprises an adsorbent material 11 dispersed within an absorbent material 10, wherein the amount of adsorbent material in mg, Cw, per mm in length for a regular format smoking article, and the amount of absorbent material in mg, Tw, per mm in length for a filter circumference of about 23 to 25 mm, are in accordance with the range: 10 (Cw + Tw) 20. The adsorbent material may be carbon, coconut, ion exchange resin, zeolite, silica gel, meerschaum, aluminium oxide, carbonaceous resin, magnesium silicate, Sepiolite and the absorbent material may be cellulose acetate. Advantageously the filter exhibits appropriate levels of filter pressure drop and hardness. Also disclosed are filters comprising randomly orientated short length fibres and apparatus for producing a filter for a smoking article. |
