A heat engine 10 comprises a fluid tight containment vessel in which is located a plurality of vanes 160 which partition the containment vessel into separate working regions and a divider 60 separates each working region into first and second parts. A plurality of passages 170, each associated with a vane, connect the first part of each working region with the second part of an adjacent working region. During operation the first parts of the working regions are heated and the second parts are cooled, the expansion and contraction of the working fluid as it is transferred between the hot first parts and the cool second parts produces mechanical power. Preferably the rotor 130 within which vanes are located includes rotatable sealing rods 180 within which the vanes can slide. |
