PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp visually the state of circumference of a destination candidate and facilitate the setting of destination by making at least one out of a plurality of destinations a noticed destination candidate, simplifying the state of roads around the candidate, and displaying a simple map showing the state on a data display unit. SOLUTION: A control part 16 detects a present position of a vehicle by a GPS signal from a GPS receiver 4 and an input signal from a self-contained navigation sensor 5. Map data around the vehicle are read from a CD-ROM 1 and stored in a buffer memory 11. Based on the map data, a map image drawing part 17 forms a map image and displays it on a display unit 7. The control part 16 detects the position of a self vehicle according to the movement of the vehicle, and displays a vehicle position mark on the display unit 7. When a destination is set by operating an operation part 2, the control part 16 searches the optimum route as far as the destination in the map data of the CD-ROM 1, stores the route information in a guide route storing part 21, and displays the optimum route on the display unit 7. |
