Apparatus for testing the quality of a fluid sample comprises: a chamber 14 for receiving at least some of the sample; and a sealing element 28 movable to a sealing position, where an insertion portion 28a of the sealing element is received within the chamber to seal the opening. One of the sealing element and container defines a displacement passage 28c for enabling a portion of the fluid sample to be displaced as the sealing element assumes the sealing position. An apparatus may also be provided, which includes a chamber, a sealing element, and an actuator. The actuator may include a linkage arm (20a, 20b, fig 2) coupled to the sealing element, for moving it towards a sealing position. An apparatus may also be provided, which includes a chamber, and a sealing element, where the apparatus also includes a membrane (66, fig 7) arranged to permit oxygen to enter the chamber, but inhibit the fluid sample from escaping via the membrane.
