The present invention concerns, in one aspect, a palatable, electrolyte-based composition for oral rehydration comprising potassium and chlorine, zinc mineral salts and a xanthan gum-based complex polysaccharide to improve palatability. The composition of the invention can be in granular or powder form for dissolution in a liquid to reconstitute an electrolyte solution for rehydration. The composition of the invention finds application in the treatment of states of dehydration in adults and children resulting from diarrhoeal syndrome in particular. |
