PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of seizure etc. liable to occur on a slide, contact part between a cover plate or a side plate and a rotor on the pump suction side especially of a variable displacement vane pump. SOLUTION: A plural number of dimples 41, 43 are respectively formed on a slide contant surface of a cover plate 3 with a rotor and a slide contact surface of a side plate with the rotor on a variable displacement vane pump furnished with the side plate stored in a pump housing to incapably rotate and to slide on one side of the rotor and a cam ring and the cover plate to slide on the other side of the rotor and the cam ring. A vane back pressure groove 29 of the cover plate 3 is made into a continuous ring groove, and a vane back pressure groove of the side plate is constituted of two pieces of semi-circular arc grooves made by dividing the continuous ring groove into two.
