PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an image defect caused by vibration associated with contacting/separating action for secondary transfer to an intermediate transfer body without requiring complicated acting sequence. SOLUTION: This image forming device is provided with a secondary transfer roller 26 for secondarily transferring a toner image on an intermediate transfer belt 21 to recording material P, and a cleaning blade 60 removing toner adhering to the roller 26. The roller 26 is kept to abut on the belt 21 at least from starting to form an electrostatic latent image till finishing the secondary transfer in image forming action. During this period, the contacting/separating action is not performed to the belt 21. Thus, the roller 26 is prevented from being soiled by the toner without performing the complicated sequence for the contacting/separating action. Then, the image defect caused by the vibration associated with the contacting/separating action of the roller 26 to the belt 21 is eliminated.
