PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate streaightening by setting work distortion to be imparted to a material to be worked only in the relationship of each straightening roll. SOLUTION: In this straightening machine 20, plural upper straightening rolls 12 and plural lower straightening rolls 14 are arranged zigzag in the feeding direction of the material in the positions above and below the pass line of the material 10 to be worked. The final upper straightening roll 12 is set so as to be situated on the downstream side of the final lower straightening roll 14. In the lower straightening roll group, under the state where the top level of the first lower straightening roll is set equal to the top level of a carrying-in roll 16, the top level of each lower straightening roll 14 on and after the first roll is set so as to be gradually raised as going toward the outlet side from the inlet side of the material 10 to be worked. The top level of the final lower straightening roll 14 is set so as to be higher by a set amount than the top level of a carrying-out roll 18.
