A display device displays an image with a size corresponding to a display area which is exposed to the outside of a housing. The display device includes a flexible display panel having a recognition pattern, a housing, and a light-receiving sensor. The recognition pattern is arranged along a first direction, actively emits and comprises a plurality of indicators having different color or intensity. The housing is combined with the flexible display panel to make the flexible display panel enter and exists along the first direction and makes the display which is variably exposed. The light-receiving sensor is located corresponding to the recognition pattern in the housing, recognizes each of the plurality of indicators, and detects the exposed display area of the flexible display panel.
