SUBSTANCE: the electrode surfaces have such a shape that the electric field set up between the electrodes makes the beam axial particle move a plane curve. The Lorentz force trying to twist the trajectory gets balanced by an opposite directed component of the electric force. The shape of the electrodes and electric potential in the inflector are described by simple precise analytical expressions.
