PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration in actuating responsivity from an actuator to a control mechanism, and to sufficiently interrupt alternating torque generating during engine operation to the actuator. SOLUTION: This variable valve system comprises a variable mechanism 11 making the valve lift amount of an intake valve 12 variable according to an engine operating state, an electric motor 34 for a driving mechanism 30 controlling actuation of the variable mechanism through a controlling mechanism 19, and a screw transmitting means 40 for transmitting rotating force of an electric actuator to a controlling shaft 32. A base end portion 45a of a screw shaft 45 is supported in a cantilever state through a gear housing 44 journaled to a driving shaft 39, and a tip end portion 45b is rockably provided. A screw not 46 is formed to move in an axial direction while rocking by following the rocking in a radial direction of arms 36, 36.
