摘要 <p>The invention provides a non-naturally occurring microbial organism containing an ethylene glycol pathway, wherein the pathway includes at least one exogenous nucleic acid encoding an ethylene glycol pathway enzyme expressed in a sufficient amount to produce ethylene glycol. The non-naturally occurring microorganisms of the invention can express exogenous nucleic acids that catalyze the fixation of C02 or CO to ethylene glycol. The microorganisms of the invention can further include enzymes to generate energy and reducing equivalents from methanol, syngas and other gaseous sources. The invention additionally provides methods of using such microbial organisms to produce ethylene glycol, by culturing a non-naturally occurring microbial organism containing an ethylene glycol pathway under conditions and for a sufficient period of time to produce ethylene glycol.</p>
