This invention relates to a medical imaging system comprising a C-arm (13, 14) including a mobile inner C (13) supporting a radiation source (15) and a radiation detector (16), a protection cover (2) of said C-arm, wherein said cover (2) is removable from said C-arm (13, 14), and wherein said cover (2) is expandable into a tunnel encompassing the full rotation path of said inner C (13), of said radiation source (15) and of said radiation detector (16), so as to protect said full rotation path both from inwards and from outwards of said inner C (13).
