PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture data processor which corrects a quantization error without performing a complicated processing and correcting the quantization error of a picture data component after reverse S transformation. SOLUTION: A range over pixel check means 1 locates a pixel which is provided with a component value exceeding the upper limit of a range and the component value of the pixel is reduced to be in the range of a component value correcting means 2. The reduced portion is compensated by increasing the same component value of the predetermined pixel based on largeness relation in terms of probability in the quantization error of S transformation coefficients LH, HL and HH/2 through the use of a component value distributing means 3.
