Provided are a bicycle rental system using a smart phone and a rental method thereof. The system includes: a bicycle rack which is installed in a bicycle station and is prepared to keep public bicycles; a bicycle terminal which includes a rack locking unit for selective locking or releasing, releases the rack locking unit when bicycle rental approval data is received from a user terminal, and is installed in public bicycles; and a control center which receives, stores, and manages public bicycle rental approval request data or public bicycle return approval request data and sends public bicycle rental approval data or public bicycle return approval data to the user terminal. The public bicycle rental approval request data or public bicycle return approval request data includes member information stored in the user terminal, identification data of a bicycle to be rented or returned, and the location data of the user terminal. The identification data of a bicycle is inputted from the bicycle terminal to the user terminal through short range communication between the user terminal and the bicycle terminal. |
