The present invention relates to a system for running a graphical user interface on a display part and a method thereof. The system comprises: a display part for outputting images on a display; a sensor for sensing coordinate data coming from a point controller for a direction and moving route of a pointer on the display part; a coordinate area data; a memory part storing coordinate area data of a graphical user interface corresponding to the coordinate area data; a timer for measuring the amount of time it takes for the pointer to be located in the coordinate area when the pointer is located in the coordinate area of the graphical user interface; and a controller for operating the graphic user interface if the pointer is located in the coordinate area of the graphical user interface outputted on the display part for a certain amount of time. By using the present invention, opening the graphic user interface of a display device can be facilitated. Also, inputting the characters and operating the icon will be easier.
