The system has a chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) tag (50) including a conductive pattern formed on a dielectric support (51). The pattern defines multiple resonators (53a-53f), where each resonator receives a linearly-polarized signal in a direction (d1) and retransmits a portion of the signal with a polarization in another direction (d2) separate from the former direction. A reader transmits a linearly-polarized read signal in the former direction, and simultaneously receives the linearly polarized-signal in the latter direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for reading a chipless RFID tag.
