PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing flicker noise caused in an XY address type solid-state image pickup device that reduces a flicker noise caused by fluorescent lamps for interior illumination in the case of photographing inside a room. SOLUTION: The flicker noise reduction method includes a step S1 of setting in advance a signal storage time to be a signal storage time ts in which no flicker is caused under a fluorescent light whose luminescent frequency is 120 Hz, a step S2 of calculating the average luminance of image data by each frame for a prescribed average luminance detection area assigned in one frame, a step S3 of calculating differences of the average luminance values among frames, and steps S4, S5, S6 of revising the signal storage time ts on the basis of the luminance differences.
