A system and method for receiving and ejecting a test strip (18) of a fluid testing device (10) includes parallel first and second guide rails (38, 40) defining a rail cavity (41). A sled (36) includes a sled post (42) and opposed first and second side leg sets (67, 69) each having at least one deflectable leg. Each of the deflectable legs is externally slidably engaged to one of the guide rails (38, 40) limiting the sled (36) to only sliding motion in either a loading direction or an opposite ejection direction. An actuator arm (32) is rotatably connected to a mechanism assembly (26). The sled post (42) is received in an elongated actuator arm slot (44). Actuator arm rotation in a loading rotational direction displaces the sled in the loading direction in a sliding motion. Subsequent opposite rotation of the actuator arm in an ejection rotational direction displaces the sled in the ejection direction and ejects the test strip.
