Provided are a battery and a fabrication method thereof. A battery has an external-facing terminal member and an insulation member (180) on the outer face side of a lid member (113). A gap between the insulation member (180) and the lid member (113) is shorter in the lengthwise side thereof than the widthwise side of the lid member (113). A weld mark (160) which spans the outer face (113e) of the lid member (113) and an aperture end face of a battery case main body (111) is formed to reach the entire circumference of the lid member (113). In a region among the lengthwise side of the lid member (113) which opposes the insulation member (180), the weld mark (160) extends not only to the outer face of the lid member (113) and the aperture end face of the battery case main body (111), but also to the outer side face (111s) of the battery case main body (111). In other regions, the weld mark (160) reaches the outer face (113e) of the lid member (113) and the aperture end face of the battery case main body (111) and does not reach the other face side (111s) of the battery case main body (111). Thus, scorching does not occur with a member upon the lid member from a plume during welding.
