Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for locating a mobile terminal. The method comprises: sending a request for obtaining reference point information to a currently connected wireless network; receiving reference point information returned by the wireless network, the reference point information comprising information about a short distance reference point near the mobile terminal and determined by the wireless network according to information about a cell or location where the mobile terminal is currently located; and determining, according to the reference point information, a measurement reference point used for locating, and obtaining the location of the mobile terminal according to the measurement reference point. By means of the present invention, an indoor or outdoor network device existing on the wireless network can be used to locate the mobile terminal, and the locating precision in an indoor or outdoor environment is improved.
