The method involves capturing a two-dimensional image by using a digital infrared camera (20) arranged in vehicle (30), and converting the image into grey image. A histogram is generated from the grey image, and the determination of threshold level from histogram is performed. The binary image is generated from grey image using threshold level. The acquisition of irregular surface from binary image is performed, and the determination of whether the irregular surface is a booby trap (10), is performed. An alarm is triggered if irregular surface is a booby trap. An independent claim is included for a device for detecting buried landmines.
