The device (100) has an armature shaft (17) whose end (17a) is floatingly supported by a commutator bearing. An axial clearance limiting unit is arranged on the commutator bearing and provided at a front-side of the armature shaft for contacting a tapering front end of the armature shaft. The limiting unit comprises a resilient region i.e. thin walled region, in order to reduce an armature end clearance of the armature shaft. The limiting unit is fixed at the commutator bearing in an axial direction (A) and/or a circumferential direction. The axial clearance limiting unit is designed as a thin walled circular disk and a pot-shaped component. An independent claim is also included for a method for reducing an armature end clearance of a switch-on device.
