<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a device for rapid laser cutting of a workpiece made of a brittle material along a cutting line thereby allowing high cutting precision, accuracy of outline and rapid cutting without suffering minute cracks, shavings or shreds; wherein the device is equipped with a laser source, a means to focus two or more laser beams on the cutting line by combining or guiding together, a means to form the laser beam, and a driving mechanism for introducing a thermomechanical stress by generating relative movement at a speed of up to 200 m/min between the laser beam and the workpiece. <P>SOLUTION: An optical mechanism for guiding the laser beams together focuses the laser beams and guides one after another to the cutting line so that a high laser power is introduced to the workpiece. A mechanism for blowing a fluid cooling medium is arranged to cool a section of the cutting line heated as above so that the thermomechanical stress is increased beyond the breaking strength of the workpiece. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
