METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR MULTI-CARRIER, MULTI-CELL WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORKS

A method and an apparatus for multi-carrier, multi-cell wireless communication networks are provided to enhance a signal reception performance by adjusting phases of pilot subcarriers. A multi-carrier wireless communication network includes one of multiple base stations and a mobile station. The base station provides communication coverage to a cell, and is adapted to transmit cell-specific pilot subcarriers and common pilot subcarriers. The cell-specific pilot subcarriers contain information about a specific cell and/or a specific base station. The common pilot subcarriers contain information common to the cells and/or the base stations. The mobile station receives the cell-specific pilot subcarriers and the common pilot subcarriers. The pilot subcarriers are employed in network operations.
