<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radar for suppressing the quantity of calculations for estimating an arrival orientation as the arrival orientation is estimated at the sufficient accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: A receiving antenna 1 outputs a plurality of received signal obtained from receptions and transmissions through a plurality of elemental antennas 2A-2E in an array antenna 10. A signal processing circuit 9 uses a Beamformer method as an arrival orientation estimating method, calculates a spectral intensity of a particular directional orientation, and calculates the spectral intensity again after the directional orientation is switched at a rough scanning pitch. Each time the directional orientation is switched, a change in which an incremental width of the spectral intensity is reduced to the previous incremental width of the spectral intensity or less is detected. If the change is detected, the arrival orientation estimating method is switched to a Capon method, the scanning pitch is switched to a fine pitch, and the subsequent calculation of the spectral intensity is continued.
