More particularly, the present invention relates to an effective process for the preparation of a compound of formula III, which is a useful intermediate in the synthesis of strontium ranelate. wherein R1 and R2 represents substituted or unsubstituted linear or branched C1-C6 alkyl group or C3-C12 cyclic group.</p>
