LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY AND APPARATUS FOR DRIVING THE SAME

An LCD device and an operating method thereof are provided to form data lines along the short axis of an LCD panel to reduce the number of data lines, thereby reducing the number of expensive ICs(Integrated Circuits) necessary to operate data lines, and miniaturizing and simplifying an FPC(Flexible Printed Circuit) and a PCB(Printed Circuit Board). An LCD panel(Liquid Crystal Display)(6) has plural data lines(D1~Dn) and plural gate lines(G1~Gm). The data lines are formed along the y axis of a substrate. The gate lines are formed along the x axis of the substrate to cross the data lines. A data driving circuit supplies a data voltage to the data lines. A gate driving circuit(2) supplies a scan pulse to the gate lines. A timing controller(3) supplies video data to the data driving circuit and controls the data driving circuit and the gate driving circuit. The gate driving circuit generates a scan pulse having a pulse width shorter than 1 horizontal period.
