A power saving method for a TV is provided to determine a type of broadcasting to cut off power supplied to a panel and a speaker selectively during a commercial broadcast, thereby reducing power consumption. A power saving method for a TV comprises the following steps of: determining a type of broadcasting in watching the TV(S11-S13); cutting off the power of a part of the TV so as for a viewer not to watch the TV when the type of the broadcasting is a commercial broadcast(S14); determining the type of currently received broadcasting when the power is partially cut off, supplying the cut power repeatedly if the type of the broadcasting is not the commercial broadcast, and resuming the first stage(S15-S17).
