Marking device docking station for mounting in or on a vehicle

Disclosed herein is a docking station for docking a marking device of the type used to mark the presence or absence of an underground facility in a dig area. The docking station comprises a housing configured to mechanically support a marking device in a docked position, wherein the housing is configured for mounting in or on a vehicle. A security mechanism secures the marking device in the docking station, wherein the security mechanism comprises at least one of: I) a locking device configured to lock the marking device to the docking station; 2) an ID mechanism to enable removal of the marking device from the docking station in response to verification of the identity of a user; and 3) a safety strap for securing the marking device to the docking station. The docking station may include an electrical connection for connecting with the marking device.
