PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for remote meter reading using the sub master are provided to allow watt hour meters designated as the sub master to collect the meter reading values of watt hour meters in the communication shadow zone and transmit the collected meter reading value to a meter reading server to prevent the omission of the collected meter reading value, thereby improving the communication performance and the stability of the remote meter reading. CONSTITUTION: A method for remote meter reading comprises the steps of: allowing a meter reading server (100) to obtain network information from a plurality of watt hour meters (201-203) (S11); allowing the meter reading server to designate a sub master (S12); allowing a designated watt hour meter to collect the meter reading value of the watt hour meter in the communication shadow zone (S13); allowing the meter reading server to collect the meter reading values of the plurality of watt hour meters (S14); allowing the meter reading server to transmit the collected meter reading value to a remote meter reading server (300) (S15); allowing the designated watt hour meter to transmit information about the failure of the meter reading value collection to the meter reading server in case the designated watt hour meter fails to collect the meter reading value of the watt hour meter in the communication shadow zone (S16); and allowing the meter reading server to collect the meter reading value of the watt hour meter in the communication shadow zone through a watt hour meter designated as a new sub master (S18). |
