A device and method capable of intuitively estimating the generating position of a radio frequency signal emitted from an arbitrary transmission device while being held by a user in a room spaced are provided. The presented device comprises: an antenna which receives the radio frequency signal; an electronic compass which produces an oriented direction and oriented angle information corresponding to the change of the oriented direction of the antenna; a controller which determines reception signal strength values according to the oriented direction of the antenna based on a reception signal of the antenna according to the oriented direction change of the antenna and the information of the electronic compass and extracts a maximum reception signal strength value among the reception signal strength values according to the oriented direction and stores the maximum reception signal strength value and the oriented direction corresponding to the same; and a display part which displays the reception signal strength values according to the oriented direction by the control of the controller and the trace of the reception signal strength values according to the oriented direction.
