The method involves determining presence of a defect on level of an accelerator pedal (20) by activation of brake pedals (30). The defect is recorded. The defect is corrected. Detection conditions of the defect are verified by comparing values of engine speed, vehicle speed and acquired pedal position (PPA1) with threshold values, where conditions are met when the speed and position values are greater than or equal to threshold values. The defect determination is interrupted if the speed and position values are lower than the threshold values.
