PILOT TRANSMISSION POWER ADJUSTMENT IN A MULTI-FLOW NETWORK

A method of adapting pilot signal transmission power of a base station operable to provide radio coverage in a multi-flow wireless communications network, a computer program product and base station operable to perform that method. The method comprises: monitoring a base station loading parameter; assessing whether the loading parameter has passed a threshold value; and, if so, adapting the pilot signal transmission power of the base station to adjust a region of multi-flow capable radio coverage overlap between the area of radio coverage provided by the base station and a set of adjacent base stations. Aspects recognise that multi-flow networks can operate more efficiently to alleviate cell overload if a region of coverage overlap between adjacent base stations is increased, thereby allowing two or more base stations to serve user equipment simultaneously in a given geographical area.
