PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member capable of improving initial adaptability including reduction of the initial friction coefficient of an amorphous carbon film coating.SOLUTION: A sliding member includes an amorphous carbon coating containing hydrogen formed on a surface of a substrate. The amorphous carbon coating is a coating in which graphite contained in the amorphous carbon coating is increased by irradiating ultraviolet rays from the surface of the substrate to the surface of the amorphous carbon coating. Alternatively, the amorphous carbon coating includes layers in which a first amorphous carbon layer including the graphite and a second amorphous carbon layer having more graphite than the first amorphous carbon layer by irradiation of the ultraviolet rays are alternately laminated in a film thickness direction, wherein the second amorphous carbon layer is in the surface layer of the amorphous carbon coating.
