PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear projector that facilitates work such as maintenance and can prevent ingress of dust and dirt.SOLUTION: A rear projector 1 comprises: an illumination optical system 110; a light modulation element 120 for modulating light output from the illumination optical system 110 in response to a video signal; a projection optical system 220 for projecting modulation light from the light modulation element 120; a screen 203 on which projection light from the projection optical system 220 is projected; a circuit board 130; a first housing 101 that accommodates the illumination optical system 110, the light modulation element 120 and the circuit board 130 and has an emission opening 102 for emitting the modulation light; a second housing 201 that holds the screen 203, has an incident opening 204 for making the modulation light incident and is connected to the first housing 101 so as to be able to be separated therefrom; and shutters 140 and 240 provided on at least one of the emission opening 102 and the incident opening 204. |
