PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laminate substrate that renders interference fringes less visible while containing a light-transmitting substrate having in-plane birefringence.SOLUTION: A functional layer 15 is formed on one surface of a laminate substrate 11. The laminate substrate comprises a light-transmitting substrate 12 having in-plane birefringence and a refractive index adjusting layer 13 having in-plane birefringence and layered on the light-transmitting substrate. The refractive index adjusting layer is located between the light-transmitting substrate and the functional layer. A refractive index nin an in-plane slow axis direction dx of the light-transmitting substrate, a refractive index nof the refractive index adjusting layer in the slow axis direction dx, a refractive index nof the functional layer in the slow axis direction dx, a refractive index nin a fast axis direction dy of the light-transmitting substrate, a refractive index nof the refractive index adjusting layer in the fast axis direction dy, and a refractive index nof the functional layer in the fast axis direction dy satisfy the relationships of nn>n, and nn>n.
