PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attenuate vibration energy inputted to a vibration control object while suppressing the generation of locking rotational vibration when an earthquake occurs without inhibiting a vibration control effect at a normal time.SOLUTION: A vibration damping device 1 comprises a first frame 2 keeping a vibration control object W thereon, a second frame 3 fixing the vibration control object W to a mounting surface G, a first damping body 4 connecting both frames to each other to attenuate the vibration energy of vibration generated from the vibration control object, and a second damping body 5 arranged between the frames to attenuate the vibration energy of the vibrations when vibration is inputted to the vibration control object. The second damping body contains an elastic body 10 which is inclined accompanied by movement when the vibration control object and the first frame relatively move in a horizontal direction with respect to the second frame by inputted vibration, and applies, to the first and second frames, stress in a direction in which the frames are separated from each other. |
